My entire childhood was spent being a storyteller but I never knew it. I developed backstories for my stuffed animals, imagined new characters for my video games, and spent countless hours begging my older brother to get lost in my own private imaginative worlds in the woods behind our house.
I didn’t realize my love for writing these stories until I was stuck in detention my junior year of high school. When left in an ominously quiet room with nothing to do and a stack of paper in front of you, what else can you do but write?! I’ve been writing stories ever since.
When I first began writing short stories my tastes began in the horror genre. There’s something about reading a written tale that frightens and unnerves that is deeply compelling to me. However, when it comes to my first novel, its all fantasy.
My company throughout all this has been Stephen King, George R.R. Martin, Patrick Rothfuss, Brandon Sanderson, and Joe Abercrombie, just to name a few. I also spend most of my time taking care of my wife (Liz), two kids (Zoe, and Connor), and our two dogs (Raven and Auri).
I’m also an avid gamer and I’m always up for discussing my favorites. Super Smash Brothers, Mortal Kombat, Final Fantasy, WoW, For Honor, as well as countless others. My lifelong favorite series would have to be one that has a special place in my heart as a writer. This small collection of games showed my adolescent heart that script and voice-acting was just as important as gameplay. I’m referring to the Legacy of Kain series. Raziel is my man!
